The nose is one of the face’s most prominent features that a good number of men and women decide to change.  Rhinoplasty is a procedure that changes the size and shape of the nose.  Most commonly, it can change the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip.  The goal is to achieve a natural-appearing nose that is aesthetically pleasing and well suited for the face.

Risks Involved
As with any surgical procedures, there are some risks involved. With a rhinoplasty procedure complications are infrequent and usually minor. However, each patient varies greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, and their healing abilities, and the outcome is never completely predictable.  Some of the complications that may occur include infection, nosebleed, or a reaction to the anesthesia.

Pre-operative Preparation
Specific instructions will be given to you by Dr. DiTredici on how you should prepare for your surgery.  For your safety on the day of your surgery you should make arrangements for someone to escort you home.

Surgical Procedure
Most commonly, the surgery is performed through incisions made within the nose.  Though, in some cases it may be necessary to make an external incision to gain better exposure.  This is usually the case after a traumatic injury.  Regardless of the technique used, the incisions will be virtually invisible after healing.  Upon completion of the procedure a protective splint will be placed on the nose, which will stay in place for approximately five days. Packing is only necessary if the septum is to be operated on for correction of a deviation. This is removed within a 24-48 hour period.

Post- Operative
After the procedure you may experience some minor discomfort, in which, Dr. DiTredici will prescribe some medication to help alleviate.  For the first few days there may be swelling and bruising around the eye area, this is most common after the breaking of the nasal bones.  You may have a stuffy feeling and experience mild bleeding.  You should not blow your nose for a week or so while the tissues heal.  The splint will be removed within 5 days. Further individualized instructions will be given upon discharge.
