The use of a patients own fat can be permanent with a very small amount of absorption. Risks Involved As with any surgical procedures, there are some risks involved. With fat grafting complications are infrequent and usually minor. However, each patient varies greatly in their anatomy, their physical reactions, and their healing abilities, and the outcome is never completely predictable. During your personal consultation with Dr. John DiTredici individual risks will be discussed in more detail. Pre-operative Preparation Specific instructions will be given to you by Dr. DiTredici on how you should prepare for your surgery. For your safety on the day of your surgery you should make arrangements for someone to escort you home. Surgical Procedure The procedure begins with the harvesting of the fat. This can be taken from anywhere on the body, but most commonly from the abdominal or buttock region. Once the fat is harvested, it is centrifuged and prepared in a special way, as to acquire pure fat. This will ensure its longevity, with a minimal amount of absorption. Techniques of preparation will vary among plastic surgeons. After the preparation phase, the fat is placed into small syringes and injected into the desired areas of augmentation with specialized canulas. This is done through small puncture incisions, which are easily closed with a suture and heal without any scarring. Post-Operative After the procedure you may experience some minor discomfort, in which, Dr. DiTredici will prescribe some medication to alleviate the pain. You should be able to return to work in just a couple of days after the surgery. Further Individual instructions will be given upon discharge. |
